‘Real mismatch’ between importance of aged care work and the industry’s wage levels

Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers says there is a “real mismatch” between the importance of aged care work and the amount Australia is paying workers in the sector.

Aged care workers across Queensland and Western Australia are expected to walk off the job for five hours today in a landmark push for higher wages and increased staffing levels.

“We are a country that can afford to respect older people and to provide that dignity and to have that right to aged care,” Ms Chambers told Sky News Australia.

“We just need to match what we are willing to pay for it to those expectations.”
