Labor to support construction of a gas-fired power station in the Hunter Valley

Labor says it will support the construction of a taxpayer-funded gas-fired power station in the New South Wales Hunter Valley on the condition the facility transitions to hydrogen ahead of schedule.

The party initially opposed the idea but are now promising to back the project to help fill the gap which will be left when the Liddell power station closes in 2023.

Under Labor's plan, the plant would initially operate on 30 per cent 'green hydrogen' and aims to ultimately move to 100 per cent.
