Independents are the ‘precursor to chaos’: Joyce

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce says the independents, with their “imperium in imperio approach”, are telling us they are unique and righteous and are actually “the precursor to chaos”.

“Independents are only successful (if) the bulk of the other members of the lower house, the House of Representatives, are not independent,” he said during his address to the National Press Club in Canberra.

“If all 151 in the lower house … were independent, then the individual will be merely one discorded voice in a sea of chaos.

“151 independents, running around like senseless chooks, a ballot each day for the prime minister, a ballot for the Treasurer, a new defence policy each week. A budget that would be an incomprehensible bag of ideas with no underlying national plan.”
