‘Gobsmacked’: There was ‘no meaningful consultation’ about Qld’s new coal royalties tax

Bowen Coking Coal Executive Chairman Nick Jorss says the industry was “gobsmacked” at Queensland’s new coal royalties scheme.

The Queensland government has increased coal royalties, as announced in the state’s budget on Tuesday.

“I mean, there’d been some talk over the last couple of weeks,” Mr Jorss told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“But no idea there was anything in this magnitude in the pipeline, I mean, this is now the highest royalty regime in the world.

“Fair to say we were very shocked, and there was no meaningful consultation.”
