Commonwealth Games 2022 live athletics updates, results on Day 7

Welcome to our live coverage of Day 7 of the Commonwealth Games.

The action is fast and furious on Friday morning (AEST) with Australia having several medal chances at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham headlined by hurdler Nicholas Hough in the main event of the night.

Hough is a genuine medal threat in the men’s 110m hurdles after an impressive run in the heats.

There is also action happening back at the Sandwell Aquatic Centre pool with the diving taking centre stage.

It was a very rough start for Sri Lanka’s Fernando Dulanjan Kaushalya who endured a nightmare qualifying round on Thursday night (AEST).

However, he  went into Friday morning’s final as something of a cult hero after he produced one of the most-painful looking belly-flops we’ve seen for some time.

Fernando produced a real dog’s breakfast on his final dive and landed with a slapping belly flop that had TV viewers grimacing.

The most painful part of his failure on the reverse 2.5 somersaults tuck came from the judges.

One judge handed him a score of just 0.5 out of 10. There was booing heard in the crowd when the savage scores were announced.

He finished with a total score of 188.15 as the last and 11th overall diver. However, he is still competing in Friday morning’s final because there were only 11 competitors in the category. Aussie Shixin Li was the top diver in the qualifying rounds with a score of 388.70.
