The head of state passed away after 70 years on the throne
Buckingham Palace announced through a statement on Thursday that Queen Elizabeth passed away peacefully in Balmoral.
After much speculation about her ailing health, her medical team grew concerned and recommended that she remain under medical supervision leading up to her death.
The Queen took over the on the throne in 1952 following her father’s death. She dies just 2 days after she appointed a new prime minister.
The global community is in mourning and it has been revealed that she will be lying in state. This marks the end of the Elizabethan era.
Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is expected to accede the throne.
