Australia’s wages grow 2.4 per cent, well below inflation; New poll shows Labor, Coalition neck and neck; Shots fired at Sydney house; NSW records 12,297 new COVID-19 cases, 14 deaths

Speaking at the Eating Disorders Victoria headquarters in Melbourne, Victoria Mental Health Minister James Merlino has announced that $20 million from the recently-delivered state budget will go towards supporting Victorians with eating disorders.

The funding will create 15 new acute care beds at Melbourne hospitals for patients living with eating disorders, more multidisciplinary teams to help people in regional Victoria and the development of a new eating disorders strategy for the state.

He said the Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system had shown the state’s number of eating disorder cases was increasing by 11 per cent each year in the decade prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Merlino said the COVID-19 pandemic had then further significantly increased the number of cases of eating disorders across the state.
