Australia’s ‘underlying’ defence policy is a reliance on the US

The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan says the “underlying defence policy of Australia” is our reliance on America.

“It’s smart that we be close to the Americans … but the failure of us to provide for our own defence under either side of politics has been a tremendous national failure,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

Mr Sheridan said he is not impressed with either political party when it comes to their defence capabilities.

“I think the government talks a big game but delivers almost nothing in terms of relevant defence capability in the next five to 20 years.

“But on the other hand … Labor has a terrible record.”
